We are coming into the colder part of our winter, this means more wintry weather like ice storms and snow. This can lead to issues with your roof, especially if your roof is over 15 years old. When we have freezing rain and snow accumulation it can cause what is called ice dams on your roof. When this happens water from melting ice and snow flows down the roof and refreezes along the eave, creating a dam. Then the rest of the water pools on the roof behind that dam. The water then backs up under the shingles and enters the infrastructure of your home. This process also causes the bond strip between the shingles to deteriorate, especially on an older roof. Now that this bond is broken it may not reseal properly and will allow the shingle to be more susceptible to wind damage leading to the shingle getting blown up by the wind, breaking, and eventually coming loose. If your roof starts to leak during these storms we highly recommend you have your roof inspected as soon as possible. We would like to help you take care of any of your roofing needs.
